Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 12, 2026

This policy covers the GLITCH EVP Android app and the GLITCH EVP Web App at glitch.ws (together, “GLITCH EVP”), provided by Patrick Burns. It explains what information GLITCH EVP uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.

The short version

  • Your recordings, locations and notes stay on your device. GLITCH EVP has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and does not collect your data on our servers.
  • Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to share or export it, or use a feature that relies on a service from your phone’s maker or Google (described below).

What the Android app uses, and why

  • Microphone — to record audio while you are recording a session. Audio is saved only to your device.
  • Location — to tag each session with where it was recorded. The coordinates are saved with the session on your device.
  • Storage — to save sessions in the Documents/GLITCH EVP folder on your device, so they remain yours and survive reinstalling the app.
  • Bluetooth and nearby devices — to record from a Bluetooth microphone and to find Chromecast devices on your network.
  • Notifications — to show that a recording is in progress, which Android requires for recording in the background.

Services provided by your phone or Google

  • Location services: GLITCH EVP asks Android for your position. On most phones Android uses Google’s location services to do this, which are governed by Google’s privacy policy.
  • Street address lookup: to show a street address instead of only coordinates, the app sends the session’s coordinates to Android’s address lookup service (provided by Google on most phones). Only the coordinates are sent.
  • Chromecast: when you cast, audio streams directly from your phone to the Chromecast over your own local network, through a temporary private address that stops working when casting ends.

Sharing and exporting

When you share a recording or export an evidence package, GLITCH EVP creates a copy and hands it to the app you choose (for example email or a messaging app). Shared files can contain the session’s details: recording time, location, markers and notes. Once shared, the receiving app’s own privacy policy applies. GLITCH EVP keeps a record on your device of what was shared and its fingerprint.

The Web App

The analyzer processes the files you open entirely in your web browser; your audio and video files are not uploaded to glitch.ws or anywhere else. To display its typefaces, the analyzer page loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser contacts Google’s servers and shares your IP address with them. glitch.ws itself is hosted by our web host, which keeps standard server logs.

Location in the Web App: to show a street address for a recording, the Web App sends the recording’s coordinates (only those) to OpenStreetMap’s address lookup service (Nominatim). If no address can be found, the coordinates are shown instead.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your sessions remain on your device until you delete them. Deleted sessions move to Recently Deleted and are permanently removed after the period you choose in Settings, or when you empty it. Uninstalling the app does not remove your recordings from Documents/GLITCH EVP; you can delete that folder with any file manager.

Children

GLITCH EVP is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
